Eat meat from happily reared animals, and then you have their permission to really enjoy what you eat.
Seconded by my great great grandmother, Dorothy Peel, in her books 100 years ago:
‘To judge by a letter which has appeared in the daily press and from private conversations it would seem that many people think that to abstain from meat on one of two days a week and to limit their total consumption to 2 ½ lb. per head per week is a restriction which may seriously affect their health. To be quite frank, it may affect their greed, but it certainly will not adversely affect their health; indeed, there seems good reason to think that less meat-eating would improve the health of the well-to-do.’
Mrs C.S. Peel, The Eat Less Meat Book, 1917
As of now (7) people have had something to say...

YUM!!!!
was just in butcher, ordering a jointed duck, and was reading Nigel Slater and thinking I must get a message to him somehow to say he should read your blog! I think it is the nice, familiar style of writing that succeeds in getting the taste buds going!

This has just ‘spoken’ to my stomach/thoughts as I was just thinking on this grey, wet November day that I feel like something carby with depth of flavour to look forward to at the end of the day. I love the thought of the interesting combination of anchovies and sultanas. Guess what our household is having for dinner tonight?!

Just posted my first comment! By the way, talking of Nigel Slater, the book I was reading last night was his ‘diaries’ cookbook. So I looked at November for inspiration….. I also keep old magazines so that I find myself looking at last November’s Country Living recipes…. It makes me wonder whether you too can sub-categorise by month as it would be useful for future reference?
